Muzzle Matters

August 2006 Shooting Tip

by: Dan Schindler

Your muzzle-hold-point, or MHP, is very important in your set-up before calling for the target.

Vertical Hold: Visually place the muzzle just under the target flight
path.

Horizontal Hold: Start the muzzle right between the trap and the breakpoint. Then move the muzzle slightly towards the breakpoint. Stop. That’s your MHP.

Note: Though you don’t want “a dead gun,” it is better to wait on the target with your MHP than it is to chase the target. When the target is launched, you should feel like “Here it comes,” not “there it goes!” Chasing a target makes you feel rushed and puts you and your swing out of control.
